The Maker's Yard started the way most workshop projects do — with too many browser tabs open, comparing specs at midnight, trying to figure out which table saw or laser engraver was actually worth the money versus which one just had the better marketing photos.
We got tired of roundup articles padded out to twenty items that clearly nobody tested, written by people who've never had to route dust collection around a garage support beam or figure out why a fence keeps drifting half a millimeter off square. So this site sticks to a simpler standard: fewer picks, more reasoning, and a willingness to say when the budget option is genuinely fine and the expensive one isn't worth it.
Everything here is written for the same kind of shop this started in — a garage, a shed, a corner of a basement — not a fully outfitted commercial studio. If a tool needs 220V service or a dedicated dust collection system most home shops don't have, we'll tell you that up front.
This site earns a small commission on some of the products we link to, which is disclosed on every article and in the affiliate disclosure. It doesn't change which products get recommended — the ones that make the list are the ones we'd actually point a friend toward.
